About Us

Click to view larger image PonderousPolly.org is a volunteer group that is responsible for the maintenance and flying of "Ponderous Polly," a Fairchild C-123K Provider (S/N 54-0592). This was the last C-123 to make it out of Vietnam and into Thailand at the end of the war.

In 1998, our aircraft was reclaimed from the desert at the Avra Valley Airport near Marana, AZ. It was refurbished and flown to the Schenectady County Airport (SCH) in upstate New York by its present owner, John Curran. The other crew members on the ferry flight were co-captain Dick Xander and flight engineers, Ray Zimmons and Mark Hinzman.

On 11 Novermber 2004, piloted by John Curran and Mark Riddell, "Polly" did afly-by at SCH in conjunction with Veteran's Day ceremonies then headed south to its new winter home at the Craven County Regional Airport (EWN) in New Bern, NC. "Polly" is currently on the airshow circuit througout the east coast during the summer and fall months. Please see our airshow schedule for more information.
